Since it’s the Tristar’s 48th birthday, I thought I’d share this recent poster acquisition. It’s a clear acrylic, guessing a window display, but it’s got a very 60s vibe even though it is very late 70s/ early 80s.

Has anyone ever reached the final level of car nerd by converting a Miata into a brown manual diesel wagon?  I can’t even be bothered to pay attention to this plane or whatever now?

I don’t know, I see them more as the Lincoln Continental of the skies. Quiet, roomy, comfortable, and plush, but slightly on the thirsty side, a bit expensive, and nobody wants to buy them.

I have a bunch of other L1011 stuff I should probably drag out of deep storage, including a super cool cutaway poster and the Lockheed book on the L1011's development. Future post I guess... If you look ahead of the right engine in that shot you’ll see the lower deck door/integrated airstair , which could be equipped with a lounge - PSA had five, and they went on to other operators once they went to an all 727/DC-9 fleet. LOL, yeah the beancounters killed it for the enthusiasts.   Again.

If you ever want to get rid of that sign/poster please let me know.

When I started at Delta we still had L10s. I remember during my interview being taken down to the hangar and they had one jacked way up to replace the center midspar. It was something to see. Between fixing cracking and corrosion on the L10 and scribe lines and laps splice cracks on the 727 and 737 Classics I was able to pay off my school loans in about 3 years.

I got this from someone who had to downsize quickly, I don’t really have the wall space for it, and I’d be happier if it was out where people could enjoy it, I just wanted to make sure it didn’t hit the dumpster, because I thought it was pretty cool.

Let me check what I have into it (I think I paid $20+ shipping), and it’s got a few flaws, so I’ll get some pics. Oppo price is what I have into it plus shipping at cost (or I can drop it off with the station staff at IAD or DCA for or meet you next time you are in DC ).

Cool. Sounds reasonable. Let me know. Shipping would probably be best as I only make it up to DC every once in a while. If we can make something  work that  would be neat.

OK I’ll try to get back to you later tonight with some detailed pics, after I’m done KidUbering for the day .

As promised, here’s some detailed photos showing the small flaws. Overall it is very presentable, but 40 year old acrylic starts to show its age a bit (some minor scuffs, cracks and crazing at the edges ) . 44" x 24" overall.

I’m into it for $30, probably $10 to ship, if you’re still interested DM me at Twitter (@mrburnsns) and we can work out the rest of the logistics.  If not, no obligation.
